Chapter 84
"No need for formalities. I'll leave after meeting with Chairman Langley." Evelyn kept her gaze lowered, her tone unreadable.
Isabella clenched her teeth in frustration. She had hoped to see Evelyn lose composure, but the woman's calm demeanor made her efforts feel futile.
Evelyn's attention remained fixed on her phone. She had noted the surveillance camera by the entrance earlier and was now memorizing its serial number for later investigation.
Isabella stared at Evelyn's serene profile, jealousy gnawing at her like a venomous snake. Some people naturally commanded attention, even in silence.
Adrian's dark eyes bore into Evelyn. Four years of marriage, yet he had never truly understood this woman who now sat absorbed in her phone.
"Evelyn, you're here." Vincent Langley strode in, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, exuding charm.
Evelyn gave a slight nod.
When Vincent noticed Adrian, his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
"Speak directly, Chairman Langley. I'm pressed for time." Evelyn stood.
"Surely you can spare a moment for dinner." Vincent smiled warmly.
"No, thank you." Evelyn sat back down. Dining with her ex-husband and his mistress? She wasn't that forgiving.
Vincent glanced at Adrian. "Let's talk in the study."
Once the study door closed, Adrian's expression turned icy. He turned to Isabella, his voice dripping with honeyed sweetness. "Isabella, I'd love some of your hand-brewed coffee."
Isabella's cheeks flushed with delight. Confidently, she headed to the kitchen, oblivious to the coldness in Adrian's eyes.
Adrian slipped into a secluded corner of the garden and swiftly put on an earpiece.
"When did you meet Alexander Durand?" Vincent cut straight to the point.
Downstairs, Adrian's muscles tensed instantly.
Evelyn feigned confusion. "We met by chance in the countryside. Do you know him, Chairman Langley?"
"An old friend." Vincent narrowed his eyes. "There's an unusual painting in his possession. Have you seen it?"
