Chapter 468
Eleanor Langley's phone clattered to the floor.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Isabella Langley frowned.
Had she seen the news too?
Eleanor stared at her, chest heaving violently. How could she have been so blind? Both daughters might have been switched.
Vincent Langley excelled at such tricks—hiding danger in plain sight. Blinded by maternal love, she'd let her real daughter die.
"Mom, what happened? Any news about Dad?" Isabella didn't even consider Cassandra Valentine.
Eleanor's heart twisted like a knife, forced to watch her enemy gloat.
Suppressing hatred, she shook her head. "Nothing. Haven't you seen the news? Adrian Valentine's sister died. Such a pity."
Isabella relaxed with a cold snort. "She had it coming. That stray nobody was raised to be useless. Death's a mercy."
She turned upstairs.
Eleanor's gaze burned into her retreating back, murder swirling in her eyes.
Stray? She was the stray! Her daughter was the true heiress.
That viper Margaret Blanchet—she'd underestimated her cruelty.
Isabella Langley, you'll pay in blood!
Eleanor grabbed car keys and bolted out. She had to see her daughter one last time.
As her car turned from the gate, another vehicle barreled toward her.
Crash!
The airbag deployed. Eleanor's skull slammed against the headrest. Through blurred vision, she saw Jonathan Savigny's panicked face.
A tear slid down her cheek.
Daughter... can't I even say goodbye?
"Eleanor!" Jonathan carried her into the ambulance.
News of Cassandra Valentine's death spread rapidly through elite circles.
Evelyn Roland studied Scarlett Orlando's newly cropped hair—the sharp cut accentuating her striking features.
"Such a drastic chop. Your agent approved?"
Scarlett tossed her head. "She's lost that privilege." Grabbing her phone, she gasped. "God! Cassandra Valentine's dead?"
Evelyn's eyes narrowed. With Cassandra gone, Isabella would drop her guard. And Eleanor would strike.
Isabella's acquittal clearly meant authorities wanted bigger prey.
"Hmm." Evelyn changed subjects. "Dinner plans? I'm free tonight."
Scarlett brightened. "Sebastian's swamped—perfect timing for girls' night!"
