Chapter 119
Evelyn set down her fork, a cold smile playing on her lips.
"Professor Langley, your sisterly affection act is making me nauseous."
She dabbed her mouth delicately, casting a disdainful glance at Isabella.
Adrian sat nearby, catching the faint scent of gardenia and milk from Evelyn.
The familiar fragrance made his mind wander.
Sebastian finally spoke. "Professor Langley, do you have nothing better to do?"
Isabella bit her lower lip, refusing to meet his gaze.
Her slender fingers twisted together as her fragile frame trembled like a wilting flower.
The picture of vulnerability was a masterclass in playing the innocent angel.
"Mr. Cortez, you misunderstand..." Her voice was barely audible.
Sebastian scoffed. "My relationship with Evelyn is none of your concern."
He turned to Evelyn, his gaze softening. "She may only have a high school diploma, but her talent is undeniable. As for her background..."
"I admire her resilience in building herself up from nothing."
Isabella's face turned ashen.
Sebastian continued, "So what if she's divorced? I should thank that blind ex-husband of hers."
"May the cheaters rot together. They deserve each other."
Isabella's nails dug into her palms.
She never expected Evelyn to openly admit her divorce.
Adrian's eyes darkened as he leaned back into the sofa.
Isabella forced herself to stand. "Adrian, let's go."
She swayed unsteadily, as if on the verge of collapse.
Adrian remained motionless.
"Evelyn!" Vincent approached with several jewelry merchants in tow.
His face lit up with a practiced smile. "You've finally returned."
Evelyn gave a curt nod.
Spotting Sebastian, Vincent's eyes gleamed. "Mr. Cortez! What an honor!"
He rubbed his hands together, wisely avoiding any mention of his adopted daughter.
