Chapter 150
If Harrison Macmillan dared to bother him again, he'd make sure the bastard regretted it.
Evelyn Roland was closing in, determined to uncover the truth behind that night.
The girl had grown a spine, standing up to him now.
What could a nobody like her possibly achieve?
All her efforts would be in vain.
A dark glint flashed in Vincent Langley's eyes as he dialed Dominic Lombardi's number.
Dominic entered, frowning. "Sir, I just ran into Mrs. Langley. She looked terrible."
Vincent massaged his temples irritably. "Who wouldn't? After everything that's happened?"
He wiped his face wearily before ordering, "Dig into Isabella Langley and Nathan Aldridge's connection. I want to know everything."
Dominic's pupils contracted. "I already checked. Evelyn worked with Nathan at Horizon Tech. Sebastian Cortez recruited her for her skills."
Vincent narrowed his eyes. "That girl's hiding something. Investigate again. If nothing turns up, I'll personally ensure Nathan fires her. She'll have nowhere to run but to me."
Dominic stiffened.
Was the old man insane? Trying to manipulate Evelyn?
This wasn't an opportunity—it was suicide.
"No." Dominic's refusal was absolute.
Vincent raised a brow. "Why not? She should be honored."
Dominic's frown deepened. "Honored? More like cursed."
"Sir, think clearly. Remember who she is. This isn't recruitment—it's planting a live grenade in your lap."
"Don't throw away your reputation now."
He had to spell it out.
Evelyn was a poisoned blade.
"She may lack power, but look what she's done with just words. First the hospital, next it'll be the morgue."
Vincent's hands trembled with rage. "You—Dominic, how dare—"
His face flushed crimson, speech failing him.
Dominic sighed. "Sir, we worked hard to go legitimate. If they trace this back to you, everything I've built is ruined."
He wouldn't let it collapse now. Not when he was so close to redemption.
Vincent waved impatiently. "Enough. Just find out about Nathan and Evelyn. I want that girl begging at my feet. No more playing defense."
