Chapter 420

Evelyn narrowed her eyes at the police officers before her.

She turned to Isabella, who wore a triumphant smirk. The gleam in Isabella's eyes seemed to say: Do you like my gift, Evelyn?

If she couldn't have Adrian, then neither could Evelyn.

Adrian stepped forward, blocking the officers. "What business do you have with my wife?"

Evelyn shot him a cold glance. He'd refused to acknowledge her as his wife before—now the word rolled off his tongue so easily.

Isabella stood frozen in the hospital room, as if struck by lightning. Her gaze burned into Adrian's back, brimming with hatred.

She should have known Adrian was only using her. Yet she'd foolishly believed he loved her.

Vincent arched a brow at Adrian. "Mr. Valentine, did I hear correctly? You're calling Evelyn your wife?"

Before Adrian could respond, Evelyn cut in. "Ignore him. His fiancée is lying in that hospital bed. He must be confused."

Adrian's expression darkened.

Vincent chuckled. "I heard the Valentine family has been through quite some turmoil lately. The stress must be getting to you."

Evelyn nodded. "Clearly."

Adrian met her gaze briefly before lowering his eyes in silence.

Evelyn turned to Sophia. "Come for me in two days."

Sophia gave a knowing nod. "Take care, sis."

To the officers, Evelyn said, "I'll go with you."

Only if she was arrested would Isabella let her guard down.

Adrian frowned. "You're really going with them?"

Evelyn scoffed. "Isn't this what you and Isabella wanted? Why pretend to care now?"

"That's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean? You schemed to frame me, and now you've succeeded. Shouldn't you be celebrating?"

Without another glance, Evelyn walked away.

Adrian stood rooted in place, watching as she was led off.

Sophia shook her fist at him. "Adrian Valentine, watch your mouth. My sister is not your wife—Isabella is. When Evelyn was at her lowest, you were off gallivanting with that woman. Sebastian Orlando is the only one worthy of being her husband. You're nothing!"

Adrian grabbed her arm. "What did you just say? When was she at her lowest?"

"Your wife? Are you insane? The whole world knows Isabella is your wife. You two deserve each other—stay the hell away from my sister!"

His gaze turned stormy, but he could only watch as Sophia stormed off.
