Chapter 73

Isabella's heart leaped into her throat. Her eyes locked onto Mr. Lowell's lips.

His voice cut through the air like a blade. "It was Evelyn. The one who left my daughter to die was Isabella. Not only did she turn a blind eye, she delivered the final blow."

Isabella's legs turned to jelly. Her nails dug deep into her palms.

She never expected the surveillance footage to capture her actions.

Adrian's icy gaze pierced through her.

All color drained from Isabella's face. She couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes.

That bitch Evelyn must die, she seethed inwardly.

Around the corner of the staircase, Evelyn stood with a cold smirk.

When she sent the video to Mr. Lowell, she'd forgotten it contained footage of Isabella.

So this was the woman Adrian chose over her.

Vincent Langley watched the video in stunned silence.

He forced an apologetic smile. "Mr. Lowell, Isabella acted in the heat of the moment... After all, Evelyn is also my daughter—"

"You call yourself her father?" Mr. Lowell scoffed. "The man who discarded her the moment he discovered she wasn't his blood?"

Vincent's face darkened.

Mr. Lowell gave Adrian a meaningful look before turning on his heel.

Isabella exhaled in relief.

She clutched Adrian's sleeve with trembling fingers. "Adrian, I was just so scared..."

He pulled his arm away. "No good deed goes unpunished."

The words struck her like a slap.

No matter how hard she tried these past weeks, Adrian remained indifferent.

Adrian gave Vincent a curt nod. "I'll handle the Lowell matter first."

As he strode away, his peripheral vision caught Evelyn standing by the staircase.

Their eyes met. Evelyn's heart clenched painfully.

Before the banquet ended, news of Isabella's scandal had already spread.

Cassandra Valentine swirled her wine glass, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
