Chapter 32
Evelyn halted mid-step, her gaze locking onto Nathan's grinning face.
"Too scared?" She arched an eyebrow.
"Boss, the old man would break my legs if he found out." Nathan shrank back.
Evelyn's lips curled into a cold smile. "I can break them right now."
She lowered her voice. "First, I need to uncover the truth about my origins and Alexander's death."
"Second, you'll introduce me as your assistant for now."
Nathan's eyes widened.
"And I'm carrying the heir to Sterling Manor." Evelyn added calmly. "Only a handful of us know."
His gaze dropped to her flat stomach. "Who's the bastard? I'll kill him!"
A frosty glare silenced him. "Mind your CEO persona."
Nathan's knees wobbled.
Evelyn sighed. The man who negotiated billion-dollar deals effortlessly now resembled a scolded child.
"How many projects today?"
At the mention of work, his posture straightened. "All secured except Lowell Group."
"Lowell?" Evelyn's fingers tapped her arm thoughtfully. "I'll join you next time."

Across the room, Isabella snapped covert photos of their exchange.
She hurried toward Adrian, phone extended. "Look at Evelyn with this man."
The image showed Evelyn leaning slightly forward as Nathan whispered in her ear.
Adrian's eyes darkened.
Julian peered over his shoulder. "Nathan Aldridge, CEO of Sterling Manor."
"Rumor says the heiress returned but remains unseen. He handles everything." He added.
Isabella tilted her head. "What's her background?"
Julian chuckled. "Mysterious. Multiple PhDs. Sterling Manor's empire? Built by her and Sebastian Cortez."
"I want to date her." He declared shamelessly.
Isabella teased, "How fickle, Julian."
Turning to Adrian, she asked, "Did the contract go smoothly tonight?"
Adrian's fingers tightened around the phone. A cold smirk played on his lips.
