Chapter 136
Harrison Macmillan, that madman, refused to take the manuscripts for free. He insisted on paying a billion dollars for them.
Evelyn Roland's brows furrowed slightly. She hadn't expected Chairman Li to pull such a stunt.
She blinked innocently. "Chairman Li, I don't quite understand these matters. Alexander and Chairman Langley were old acquaintances. I just didn't want his life's work to go to waste."
"Consider these manuscripts a gift to Chairman Langley. I can't profit from Alexander's creations."
Harrison waved a hand dismissively. "You're too naive, child. Here's what I'll do—I'll give you three hundred million. Those photos from last night... I had my people analyze them overnight. They do hold value."
"Chairman Li..."
"Don't refuse. If you won't take the money, give it to the Tang family if you ever cross paths with them. Consider it helping them rebuild."
Harrison wore an expression of righteous conviction.
Evelyn gave him a meaningful look.
Vincent Langley let out a cold laugh, clutching the photos as he turned to leave.
Harrison and his entourage followed closely behind.
A faint smirk curled Evelyn's lips. Vincent Langley, your days of comfort are over.
When she turned, she found Adrian Valentine still seated on the sofa.
That icy smile of hers hadn't escaped his notice.
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting a hazy glow around Evelyn.
Her voice was cold. "Why are you still here, Mr. Valentine?"
Adrian's Adam's apple bobbed as he tugged irritably at his loosened tie.
"Evelyn, you're playing with fire."
Her red lips curved upward. "Adrian Valentine, we're done. Don't act like you have any right to control me. The sight of you disgusts me."
Her smile was bright, but her eyes were frigid.
Adrian surged to his feet, gripping her chin.
Before she could react, he crushed his lips against hers.
Evelyn stiffened.
She shoved him away, wiping her mouth in revulsion.
"Adrian, enough!" Her voice trembled. "I loved you once, endured your cruelty. But not anymore. Have some self-respect."
"Touch me again, and I'll make sure you never speak another word."
"Love?" Adrian's gaze darkened. "The one you love is Alexander Durand. Lie to me again, and you'll regret it."
