Chapter 462

Sophia Blanchet's knuckles turned white as she gripped her phone. She stood by the car, eyes locked on the building across the street.

The call connected. Scarlett Orlando's voice came through. "What's wrong?"

"Come down," Sophia said tersely. "Evelyn followed Cassandra into that building."

She hung up, her pulse quickening. Instinct told her something was off.

The basement lights glared harshly.

Evelyn Roland trailed behind Cassandra Valentine through the dim corridor, the air thick with mildew. She frowned. "Why are we here?"

Cassandra remained silent.

At the end, a small door swung open. Isabella Langley sat poised on a black leather chair, crimson lips curving.

"Welcome," she said, lightly clapping.

Cassandra's pupils constricted. "You!"

Isabella rose, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. She circled Cassandra like a predator admiring its prey.

"Want the truth?" Isabella chuckled. "Too bad. You'll never get it."

Evelyn took half a step back, her spine pressing against the cold wall.

"How does it feel," Isabella whispered suddenly in Cassandra's ear, "to be swapped at birth? To be despised by your own mother?"

Cassandra trembled violently. "What do you know?"

Isabella threw her head back and laughed, the sound echoing off the walls. She seized Cassandra's chin. "You're just a discarded pawn!"

Evelyn saw the flash of anguish in Cassandra's eyes.

"Does Julian know who you really are?" Cassandra gritted out.

Isabella released her, wiping her fingers with disgust. "Worry about yourself first."

She jerked her chin toward two burly men by the door. "They can have you."

Cassandra paled.

Evelyn lunged forward. "Stop!"

Isabella arched a brow. "Almost forgot about you." Her lips parted. "Take care of them both."

The men advanced. Evelyn's hand slid toward the pepper spray in her pocket.

Cassandra suddenly grabbed Isabella's wrist. "Who is my real mother?"

Isabella shoved her away. "Ask the devil in hell!"

Footsteps pounded outside. Sophia burst in with security guards.

"The police are on their way!" she barked.

Isabella's face twisted.

Cassandra collapsed to the floor, silent tears streaming down her face.
