Chapter 231
Vincent Langley immediately thumped his chest in assurance. "Don't worry, Mr. Aldridge. Such a thing would never happen."
Evelyn arched a brow at Nathan. Did she look that easy to bully?
Just as she was about to speak, Cassandra Valentine stormed over in her stilettos.
"Evelyn Roland, how dare you show your face here?" Cassandra looked down her nose at her. "A parentless orphan, a mere assistant, sneaking into high society's banquet?"
Nearby guests turned to watch the spectacle—the Valentine heiress picking another fight.
Cassandra had been simmering with rage all evening. After Julian Roscente discovered she'd drugged him that night, he'd cut all contact.
All because of Evelyn's meddling!
"Since when do I need your permission?" Evelyn met her glare coldly.
"Of course it concerns me!" Cassandra shrilled. "Which proper lady here would tolerate sharing space with trash like you? You're dragging down the entire event!"
Her pretty face twisted with malice.
Isabella Langley smirked inwardly. Humiliating Evelyn in public would force her to hand over the money.
Evelyn saw right through her. Using her as a punching bag? Dream on.
"Oh? And you're so refined?" Evelyn chuckled. "What brand of trash bag are you? You hold so much."
A few socialites nearby snorted with laughter.
"You—!" Cassandra trembled with rage. "You're just a discarded bitch! How dare you act so arrogant!"
"What I do is none of your damn business." Evelyn narrowed her eyes. "But you? Your methods with men are quite...wild, aren't they?"
Cassandra paled.
"Mind your image, Miss Valentine." Evelyn feigned concern. "This shrew act is scaring off all the eligible bachelors."
So Julian had exposed her. She was bitter about her ruined scheme.
Cassandra glanced around frantically, spotting several heirs whispering and pointing. Panic set in.
That night at the hotel...she might have gone too far...
"Evelyn, how could you slander Miss Valentine like that?" Isabella cut in smoothly.
Evelyn's gaze turned glacial. "Slander? Should I show the evidence?"
Isabella choked.
Vincent frowned. "Enough of this!"
"Enough?" Evelyn scoffed. "Who started it? Your precious Miss Valentine."
Meeting her icy stare, Vincent stiffened. Since when did a country girl have such piercing eyes?
Cassandra shot Evelyn a venomous glare before fleeing in disgrace.
The scandal spread through elite circles instantly.
Listening to the murmurs, Isabella cursed Cassandra's incompetence. She glared at Evelyn—why was this bitch so hard to crush?
Noticing her stare, Evelyn turned to Vincent. "Didn't you have something to say, Mr. Langley? Shall we discuss it here?"
