Chapter 419

"Evelyn, what do you mean? You were the one who saved me that day?" Adrian's voice trembled, his eyes swirling with complex emotions.

Evelyn stared at him coldly. "Who else? Did you really think Isabella could carry you out of a burning building with that frail frame of hers?"

She flung a stack of photos and documents onto the table.

"See for yourself. Isabella and Christian had been dating for a year. That day, you were supposed to meet Christian at Nata Tower. I wanted to surprise you."

"The moment I arrived, the building was already on fire. I rushed in and pulled you out. By the time I went back for Christian, you were gone."

She pointed to a surveillance still. "This shows Isabella taking you away. You two had planned Christian's murder together."

Evelyn turned to Isabella, her gaze icy. "Christian gave you his heart. Even his business trips were just excuses to see you."

"One was his girlfriend, the other his closest friend. Yet you both conspired to kill him. And now you dare meet here in secret? Disgusting."

"To pin the blame on me—how much lower can you sink?"

Her chest heaved violently, her fingertips trembling slightly.

Adrian picked up the photos with shaking hands. In one, Isabella nestled in Christian's arms, both smiling sweetly. Another showed them at a gala abroad.

"How...?" He had seen Evelyn set the fire with his own eyes.

Isabella paled. Where had Evelyn gotten these?

Evelyn read her thoughts. "Isabella, we were never switched at birth. You grew up overseas. You know that city inside out."

"You used my name to lure Christian there but met him yourself. This was your plan from the start."

"No wonder the Lefèvres insisted I killed Christian. You framed me first to cover your tracks."

Adrian felt as if struck by lightning. From the very beginning, Isabella had been manipulating him.

She had even outmaneuvered Evelyn.

When he learned someone in the Valentine family wanted Evelyn dead, and discovered Isabella was Vincent Langley's daughter—combined with witnessing Evelyn set the fire—he had pretended to fall for Isabella to drive Evelyn away.

His grandmother was aging. Uncovering his father's killer couldn't wait.

But today's revelations shattered his plans.

He never wanted Evelyn dragged into the Valentine family's quagmire.

He had tried to outplay Isabella, only to be outplayed himself.

And in the end, his wife paid the price.

Isabella spat blood, her voice venomous. "Evelyn, you started that fire! Adrian and I saw it with our own eyes—you're the murderer!"

Slap!

Evelyn struck her again.

"Ah!" Isabella cried out, nearly toppling from her chair.

Evelyn smirked. "Isabella. Adrian. I have a special gift prepared for you both."

As she reached the door, several police officers blocked her path.

The lead detective bore a striking resemblance to Christian—his half-brother.

"Evelyn Roland?" He flashed his badge. "We need you to come with us."
