Chapter 199

"I'll walk you to the car," Vincent Ashcroft said softly.

Evelyn Roland nodded.

Vincent hailed a taxi and watched it drive away before turning back.

Inside the car, Evelyn's worried face reflected on her phone screen. The internet was flooded with vicious insults targeting Vincent.

She knew too well how ruthless the Ashcroft family's rivals could be. Tomorrow would only get worse.

~The Ashcroft heir is truly despicable. Ruining someone's reputation ruins their entire life.

~Rich heirs don't care about ordinary people. They step on others' suffering for fun.

~Serves him right for going bankrupt! Let's see who tramples whom when he's left with nothing!

Vincent unlocked his phone. The barrage of hateful comments stabbed at his eyes.

The last one made his fingers tremble.

Evelyn's words suddenly echoed in his ears. She said they always took pleasure in her pain.

He had simply disliked her aloof demeanor.

Only now did he understand the depth of his regret.

How could he have been so reckless?

Was it worth destroying the entire Ashcroft family over a moment of pride?

Evelyn was cunning. He had only meant to teach her a lesson.

But had he truly been wrong?

......

The moment Evelyn entered her apartment, she dialed Isabella Langley's number.

"Did you see the news, Isabella? The Ashcrofts are finished."

Isabella already knew but wondered why Evelyn was calling now.

"Aren't you supposed to be with Julian Roscente at the hotel?"

"It failed," Evelyn gritted her teeth. "Evelyn took him away."

"What?" Isabella's voice rose sharply. "Weren't you following them?"

To lose track like this—what an idiot.

"The elevator doors closed too fast..." Evelyn's voice wavered. "Now I'm afraid Vincent will realize we used him."

Isabella laughed lightly. "He acted on impulse. Who can he blame but himself?"

Too bad this fool didn't go all the way.

Evelyn caught her meaning. "I understand."

Vincent wouldn’t dare accuse her.

"Don’t worry," Isabella said, as if reading her thoughts. "He won’t."

"But I have an idea," Isabella added suddenly. "We can let someone else tell Vincent."

Evelyn's eyes lit up. "Tell me!"

After hearing Isabella's plan, Evelyn stood frozen, phone in hand.

If executed well, this could destroy Evelyn completely.

If not... Adrian Valentine would kill her.

Remembering the way Adrian looked at Evelyn, she bit her lower lip.

They were all just women he'd discarded anyway.

Evelyn walked to the study and retrieved a spare phone.

At the very least, she’d see what Vincent would choose.
