Chapter 424

Victor knelt on one knee, gently removing the white socks from Adrian's feet.

Three toenails had been torn off. The wound on his big toe still oozed blood.

"Jesus—"

Victor sucked in a sharp breath just looking at it. The pain seemed to radiate through his own body.

The doctor gave Adrian an impressed glance before picking up the antiseptic to clean the wounds.

As the three nails were fully removed, Victor turned away from the gruesome sight to fetch slippers.

"Wear these and rest. Change the dressing every three days," the doctor said after bandaging the injuries. "Now go next door for an IV."

Adrian's brow furrowed. "Just prescribe medication."

The doctor frowned. "You need a tetanus shot."

"Medication." Adrian's tone brooked no argument.

With a sigh, the doctor scribbled a prescription. "Take this three times daily. Follow up in three days."

Victor returned just then, placing the slippers by Adrian's feet.

He took the medicine bag and helped Adrian leave the antiseptic-smelling hospital.

Victor hated hospitals. As a child, his mother had borrowed money from relatives to pay for his treatments—only to face their scorn.

Inside the car, Adrian's hoarse voice broke the silence. "Any news of her?"

Victor glanced at him through the rearview mirror. "Sir, I only went to buy slippers."

What could he possibly uncover in that short time?

"But Warren sent word—Vincent pinned everything on Dominic. Dominic might get the death penalty."

Adrian smirked. "He thinks he'll walk away unscathed?"

"Release the evidence of his bribery with Mr. Yu."

Victor tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Understood."

"Wait until the day after tomorrow." Adrian narrowed his eyes. "Tomorrow, leak Isabella and Warren's affair first."

Victor's hands jerked.

This would only deepen the misunderstanding.

They'd used Isabella to investigate his father's old case. Now Evelyn was convinced Adrian had conspired with Isabella to kill Christian.

"Sir, about Evelyn—"

Adrian closed his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing.

He hadn't believed her when it mattered most.

He didn't deserve her.

"Hire the best lawyer," he said, voice trembling slightly.

Victor hesitated.

He'd already taken care of that long ago.
