Chapter 248
Cassandra Valentine glanced around before lowering her voice. "Evelyn, there's no trace left from last time, right? Without evidence, you can still marry Julian Roscente."
"He's no saint himself. Who is he to judge you? If you dare to act, you'll succeed."
Isabella Langley encouraged her while secretly scheming. She knew every dirty secret Lucien Croix and his ilk were hiding.
"What's a little manipulation in the name of love? You did nothing wrong."
Cassandra clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms. The rumors Evelyn Roland had spread in their circle coiled around her like venomous snakes, suffocating her reputation.
"I did nothing! There's no evidence. Isabella, you have to help me this time."
Julian had been her obsession for years. She would never let go.
"And that bitch Evelyn—she's the reason everyone points fingers at me. Ever since she returned, even my brother has changed."
Jealousy burned in Cassandra's eyes. That fox-like face had ensnared so many men, even her backup Vincent Ashcroft had fallen for it.
Isabella smiled coldly inwardly but feigned sympathy. "True feelings always win in the end."
"But he's been avoiding me lately." Cassandra bit her lip. If not for her status as a Valentine heiress, Julian would have cut ties long ago.
The thought of Evelyn ruining her plans made her want to tear that face apart.
Isabella watched her twisted expression and knew the moment was ripe. "I heard Evelyn and Scarlett Orlando are upstairs. Could Julian be here to see her?"
She pretended surprise, though jealousy raged inside her. How dare a discarded woman steal the spotlight?
Cassandra exploded. "That whore! I won't let her get away with this!"
"Isabella, let's go upstairs."
Isabella feigned hesitation. "I have a meeting with my agent about an ad. Be careful on your own."
"Too bad you won't witness it firsthand." Cassandra stepped into the elevator, regret lacing her voice.
Isabella watched the elevator ascend before turning to find Adrian Valentine. She needed to stall him—he couldn't interfere.
Something about the siblings' relationship always struck her as odd. Cassandra only called her brother "eccentric," but instinct said there was more to it.
