Chapter 233
Evelyn's brow furrowed slightly as her fingers tapped lightly on the table.
The Violet Diamond?
Alexander's beloved woman?
He had never mentioned her before.
"Mr. Langley, I'll keep an eye out for any leads. I'll do everything I can to fulfill Alexander's wish," Evelyn said softly.
Vincent Langley narrowed his eyes in satisfaction.
This was exactly the kind of obedient pawn he needed.
Harrison Macmillan chimed in at the perfect moment. "Evelyn, the three billion was just the beginning. Once we locate the ore, your share will be substantial."
A cold smile tugged at Evelyn's lips.
Three billion couldn't even buy the blueprint.
These two men were equally hypocritical.
"You're too kind, Mr. Macmillan. Finding the blueprint is our priority," she murmured, lowering her lashes to hide the icy glint in her eyes.
Seeing his objective achieved, Vincent rose to leave.
"Young people should enjoy themselves."
Evelyn remained alone on the terrace.
The night breeze brushed through her hair.
Sebastian Orlando approached with a tray bearing her favorite seafood salad.
"Care for a bite?"
His voice was so gentle it almost felt surreal.
Something about his tone struck Evelyn as eerily familiar.
"Thank you," she replied, settling into a white wicker chair.
They spoke in hushed tones.
Nearby, Adrian Valentine clenched his champagne glass.
His gaze burned into Sebastian as he peeled shrimp for Evelyn.
Once upon a time, that had been his privilege.
No one knew Evelyn's preferences better than he did.
A simple meal of shrimp and greens had always been her greatest comfort.
Now, all her joys belonged to someone else.
"Forgive me, there's an urgent matter," Sebastian suddenly stood.
Evelyn noticed the tension in his expression. "Do you need help?"
"Next time, I promise." He hurried away.
Inside the ballroom, Nathan Aldridge was mingling with guests.
Evelyn made her way to the lounge alone.
The sound of the closing door echoed through the empty hallway.
Leaning back on the sofa, she finally let her mask slip.
