Chapter 144
Nathan and Zachary pushed open the hospital room door. The bed was empty.
They exchanged a glance, pupils contracting sharply.
"Where's the boss?" Nathan's voice was tight.
Zachary immediately pulled out his phone. "I'll check the surveillance footage."
Hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor.
Adrian rushed into the ER carrying an unconscious Evelyn, his white coat stained with vivid blood.
"What happened?" Nathan blocked Adrian's path.
Adrian's eyes darkened. "You promised to take care of her."
Zachary scoffed. "You dare question us? You stabbed Evelyn for your fiancée, and now you're playing the devoted lover?"
Adrian's knuckles cracked under the pressure of his clenched fist.
"Want to fight?" Zachary loosened his tie. "Go marry Isabella and worship her. Stop tormenting Evelyn."
The ER lights flickered on.
Nathan lowered his voice. "Get the car ready. The lobby's swarming with reporters and Isabella's fans."
Zachary nodded. "I'll have Gabrielle arrange a private hospital."
Adrian stood in the corridor shadows, his fingers bone-white.
Thirty minutes later, Evelyn was wheeled out.
Her face was paper-pale, fragile lashes casting delicate shadows under the harsh lights.
"Where are you taking her?" Adrian blocked the gurney.
Nathan shoved him aside. "Should we wait for your fiancée's mob to attack her?"
As the convoy drove away, Adrian remained motionless.
Victor hurried over. "Sir, Miss Langley—"
Adrian watched the taillights disappear, his chest hollow.
Meanwhile, Isabella strode into Starlight Media in stilettos.
"Miss Langley!" The receptionist fawned. "Scarlett's new drama premiered today, but the ratings won't touch yours."
Vanessa linked arms with her. "That video of Mr. Valentine taking a knife for you is trending. Netizens are calling it fairy-tale romance."
Isabella traced her manicured nails, lips curving in triumph.
