Chapter 356
"Just call me Evelyn."
Evelyn met the dark eyes behind the mask without flinching.
There was something wicked and untamed in that gaze—strangely familiar.
Men like him always seemed to gravitate toward her.
Sebastian Orlando was gentle as jade, while Sebastian Cortez wore refinement like a cloak over his roguish core.
"Evelyn, today's news claims you're a murderer?"
Her eyes turned icy. "Watch your words, Mr. Roland."
A low chuckle. "I'm curious. Have you ever gotten blood on your hands? You're remarkably composed for someone who just found her way here."
Her gaze sharpened. "Flattery won't work on me. I'm just an ordinary woman."
"You're skilled with computers." He'd noticed her deft movements earlier.
"A passing familiarity," she said coolly.
"More than passing." He pulled out his phone. "Let's exchange contacts."
Evelyn frowned, reluctant to engage further.
"Wasn't this about repaying a life debt?" His lips curved. "Or were those just empty words?"
"..."
She hadn't needed his help to begin with.
With a silent sigh, she added his number.
He immediately dialed to verify, satisfied only when her phone rang.
Evelyn exhaled through her nose.
Back on the ground floor, she made a brisk farewell. "Goodbye, Mr. Roland."
She strode toward the luxury car idling at the curb and slid inside without looking back.
He watched the vehicle disappear before turning toward the underground garage.
——
In the hospital room, Julian Roscente recognized her footsteps.
And that faint, elusive fragrance she carried.
"Evelyn, did you catch them? Are you hurt?" Concern laced his voice.
Since the Vincent Ashcroft incident, his attitude toward her had warmed noticeably.
"They got away." She took a seat. "I think they were targeting me—using you as the weapon."
His laugh was cold. "Just like Vincent. Too bad they miscalculated. You saved me."
"I dragged you into this," he admitted quietly.
Evelyn studied him. Julian wasn't inherently bad—just privileged and arrogant from birth.
"The medicine is with Victor. You'll recover in ten days." She stood.
"Leaving already?"
"Yes." She nodded. "They'll try again. Next time, you're on your own."
She turned to go.
Julian called for Victor, his voice grim. "Investigate Isabella Langley. And don't worry about Adrian Valentine's reaction."
Victor thought of Isabella's deceitful smile, baffled by Adrian's inexplicable fondness for her.
