Chapter 102
"Nathan, you—"
"What about me? Can't even form a proper sentence yet you're gossiping like a fishwife? Is your brain only wired for scheming? Who made you the judge of other people's morals?"
"Miss Langley, mind your manners."
Isabella's pupils contracted. How dare a mere guard dog from Sterling Manor speak to her like this?
Nathan found her stunned silence utterly boring.
If Sophia were here, she'd have verbally eviscerated this woman until she booked a one-way ticket off the planet.
The driver leaned in with a venomous whisper, "Patience, Miss. We'll deal with him later."
Isabella finally regained her composure.
Nathan immediately texted Evelyn upon entering the venue, reporting Isabella's presence.
Evelyn replied instantly: [Ignore her. The Langleys are dangerous. Watch your back.]
Nathan's guard went up.
But something felt off about tonight's gathering.
Why was everyone fawning over Vincent Langley?
He edged closer with his assistant, catching snippets of conversation:
"Mr. Langley, we heard only you know the secret of that painting. Let's share the wealth, shall we?"
"Our company specializes in mineral exploration. Just give us the lead..."
Vincent's forehead glistened with sweat. What secret? He couldn't decipher a treasure map if it bit him.
"A misunderstanding," he feigned helplessness. "My adopted daughter Evelyn holds the answers. She's... unavailable at the moment. This old man is past his prime."
Nathan nearly snorted.
The greed in that fox's eyes was practically oozing through his dignified facade.
"Is this true?" Chairman Lin grabbed Vincent's arm eagerly.
"Absolutely. She and Alexander Durand were lovers. He entrusted everything to her."
Nathan: "..." Since when was Evelyn dating Alexander?
This was blatant deflection.
True, Evelyn knew about the map—she and Alexander grew up together. But siblings-at-arms, not lovers.
