Chapter 297

Adrian Valentine's gaze was sharp as a blade, fixed unwaveringly on Julian Roscente. "Uncle Roscente, what exactly are you trying to do?"

"She went too far! I suspect Evelyn Roland is the mastermind behind this." Julian Roscente's voice dripped with venom. "My son is blind now. I will have my revenge."

Adrian's knuckles turned white as he lowered his eyes in silence.

For a moment, he couldn't distinguish reality from illusion.

Evelyn wasn't that kind of person. "Where's your proof?"

Julian's expression darkened. "From Christian Lefèvre to Vincent Ashcroft, and now our Roscente family—that woman is cunning. She appears ordinary, yet she's connected to powerful figures like Sebastian Cortez and Nathan Aldridge."

Adrian lifted his gaze, mockery flashing in his eyes. "And if it's not her?"

Julian scoffed. "Still hung up on Evelyn? Didn't you already choose Isabella Langley? Defending your ex-wife who betrayed you—is it worth it?"

Adrian's voice dropped low. "I saw with my own eyes that Evelyn saved Julian that night."

No matter how much he resented her, he couldn't bear to see her hurt.

Julian shook his head with a sigh. "Young man, sometimes seeing isn't believing. Maybe she staged that rescue act because she knew the truth was about to come out."

"So saving your son makes me the villain now?"

A cold female voice cut through the air from the doorway.

Julian spun around.

Evelyn stood at the entrance, her icy glare piercing through him. The sheer intensity of her presence made him falter.

Just moments ago, he'd been certain she was the culprit. Now, doubt crept in. Could someone so breathtakingly beautiful truly be so cruel?

Evelyn had come to the hospital to pick up medication and decided to check on Julian Roscente—only to overhear this conversation.

"All the evidence points to you," Julian narrowed his eyes.

"Your reasoning." Evelyn didn't even glance at Adrian.

To her, distrust from those who should know better was the sharpest blade of all.

"Why were you following Julian? Do you live in that area too?"

Evelyn stepped into the room, noticing Julian's absence.

"I followed him because I knew he was in danger. Believe what you want."

"After how he insulted you, you held no resentment?"

"A child's misbehavior reflects the parent's failure." Evelyn's lips curled into a cold smile. "I wouldn't waste my energy on meaningless words from a stranger. And I certainly wouldn't throw my life away over petty grudges."
