Chapter 415
Evelyn couldn't comprehend any of this. But before she could dwell on it further, a composed figure emerged from the shadows of the corridor, walking toward her with measured steps.
Nathan's gaze locked onto Evelyn, who stood beside Harrison. His jaw tightened, fingers curling into fists at his sides.
Beside him, Simon sensed the dangerous aura radiating from Nathan. He cleared his throat and called out, "Ms. Carter!"
Evelyn's brows lifted in surprise as she turned.
There, several paces behind her, stood Nathan. She had no idea how long he'd been there. His piercing eyes were fixed on the closed doors of the operating theater.
"Evelyn, haven't you done enough damage to the Delaney family?"
Nathan's tone was sharp, laced with an edge of warning. His stance suggested he was ready to defend the Delaneys.
Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "Mr. Sterling, are you here to stand up for them?"
"No!" The word burst from Nathan as his gaze met hers. "I just want you to stop this now."
A cold smile curved Evelyn's lips. "I found it odd when you blocked my investigation into Juliette at Coronia University. And now you're here again. Does this mean you've always known who the impostor is?"
Nathan didn't flinch. "Yes."
He continued, his voice low but firm. "But Evelyn, I'm asking you to trust me just this once. Drop the investigation. Digging deeper won't benefit you. No matter who this Juliette is, I won't let her harm you."
It was a promise—one that Evelyn found laughable. "Nathan, do you even hear how ridiculous that sounds?"
Nathan turned slightly, avoiding her piercing stare. Then, with deliberate slowness, he said, "Evelyn, I once made a vow to protect the Delaney family. I've already broken that promise. So whatever you're planning next, I'm asking you—don't hurt Alistair."
"Mr. Sterling!" Simon interjected sharply, trying to cut him off.
He knew Nathan cared deeply for Evelyn, but these words would only push her further away.
"Mr. Sterling, 'hurt' is hardly the appropriate term here." Harrison stepped forward, shielding Evelyn with his presence as he countered Nathan with icy precision.
"We never intended any harm to Mr. Delaney. Today's incident was entirely unforeseen."
He paused, then added with quiet confidence, "But your insistence on stopping us only makes you seem guilty. Is there something you're hiding about this fake Juliette?"
Each word was enunciated with deliberate clarity.
Nathan scoffed, his expression darkening. "Don't make baseless accusations."
Harrison smirked, meeting Nathan's glare head-on. The tension between them crackled in the air—two forces of equal strength, neither willing to yield.
Just then, the operating theater doors swung open. A harried doctor rushed out, scanning the group. "Who here is family of the patient?"
Nathan reacted first, brushing past Harrison without hesitation. "I am. How is he?"
