Chapter 156
The reporter's eyes lit up at the prospect of scandalous gossip that could ruin someone's reputation. "Which celebrity are we talking about here?"
Vanessa Sterling smirked as she dropped her bombshell. "It's Evelyn Carter from Kingsley Industries. I've got proof of her sleeping around."
The moment Evelyn's name was mentioned, the reporter's enthusiasm evaporated.
In a city like Pamore, everyone knew better than to mess with the Kingsley family. No media outlet dared touch Evelyn's private life now.
"What kind of proof?" The reporter asked half-heartedly, but Vanessa missed the sudden lack of interest.
She was determined to expose Evelyn's true nature to the world.
"I'll email you the photos. Make sure this gets published," Vanessa demanded.
"Sure thing," came the disinterested reply, but Vanessa still eagerly forwarded the compromising pictures.
She expected to see Evelyn's scandal splashed across every tabloid the next morning. Instead, there was complete silence.
Not a single entertainment outlet would even take her calls.
"Damn you, Evelyn," Vanessa muttered through clenched teeth. But she wasn't done yet.
If the press wouldn't cooperate, she'd take matters into her own hands. She'd make sure Nathan Sterling saw what kind of woman his ex-wife really was.
Storming into Sterling Enterprises, Vanessa barged straight into Nathan's office.
"Nathan, look at Evelyn! She's been jumping from one man's bed to another since your divorce. What's wrong with her?" She shoved her phone in his face.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees at Evelyn's name.
Undeterred, Vanessa kept talking while scrolling through her phone's gallery. "Here's the proof—"
Nathan barely glanced at the photos before his expression darkened. He hadn't realized Evelyn and Adrian Prescott had grown so close.
Was his former best friend really pursuing his ex-wife?
A cold laugh escaped him as he remembered their last confrontation.
"Don't you have anything better to do?" His voice was dangerously calm.
Vanessa blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Nathan tapped his fingers on the desk. "Have I been giving you too much allowance lately?"
The mention of her allowance made Vanessa pale.
Her funds were already stretched thin. Any more cuts would leave her penniless.
"Nathan, please don't reduce my allowance! I'll leave right now—" She started backing toward the door.
"Not so fast." His command froze her in place.
"Is there... something else?" Vanessa asked nervously.
Nathan pointed at her phone. "Delete those photos. And if I ever catch you interfering with Evelyn again—"
His voice dropped to a whisper. "I'll ship you off to Firalden for a decade. No returns."
Vanessa's eyes welled up with tears.
"Nathan, how can you treat me like this over that bitch Evelyn? I'm your sister!" She wailed.
"Delete. Them. Now." Each word was like an ice pick.
Vanessa trembled from head to toe.
She'd come here expecting Nathan to join her in hating Evelyn. Instead, he'd taken her enemy's side.
"I'll delete them, I swear! Just please don't send me away. I promise I'll never bother Evelyn again," she begged desperately.
Nathan gave a barely perceptible nod as he watched her frantically erase every photo.
