Chapter 147
Maxwell placed the contract before Evelyn. "See for yourself."
Evelyn hadn't expected such generosity from Nexa Group.
"Very well, we'll tentatively accept these terms. But we'll finalize everything during our next meeting with them."
"Yes, Ms. Carter."
With this matter resolved, Evelyn's mood lifted instantly. Energized, she threw herself back into work with renewed focus.
So absorbed was she that she didn't notice someone entering her office quietly.
Olivia watched Evelyn's intense concentration with disbelief. She'd never seen her friend so immersed in work.
Approaching the desk, Olivia tapped it several times. Without looking up, Evelyn said, "Yes, Maxwell? Could you bring me some coffee?"
Olivia rolled her eyes.
Only when silence followed did Evelyn glance up, her eyes widening in surprise. "Olivia? What are you doing here?"
"Who did you think I was?" Olivia sighed.
Evelyn quickly set aside her documents and stood, taking Olivia's arm. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming? I assumed you were Maxwell."
"I called you repeatedly," Olivia pointed out.
Evelyn checked her phone and winced at the multiple missed calls. "Sorry! My phone was on silent."
Olivia waved it off. "Never mind, you workaholic. You've completely forgotten about our spa appointment, haven't you?"
Guilt flashed across Evelyn's face. "I'm so sorry, Olivia."
Seeing her friend's exhaustion, Olivia softened. "It's fine. But your skin's been looking terrible lately. Let's go get pampered."
Only then did Evelyn realize how neglected her complexion had become. "You're right. I desperately need some self-care."
Without further protest, she accompanied Olivia to an upscale spa nearby.
They booked a VIP suite for full treatments, emerging completely relaxed afterward.
Just as they were settling in to rest, voices carried from the adjacent room.
"We should enjoy this rare outing to the fullest." The speaker was unmistakably Eleanor. Though they hadn't seen her in months, her haughty tone was unforgettable.
"Mrs. Blackwell, you've become quite the elusive figure since discovering your daughter-in-law is heir to the Kingsley fortune!"
News of Evelyn's true lineage as Leonard Kingsley's granddaughter had spread like wildfire through elite circles.
Among society women, no secret remained hidden for long, and gossip about Eleanor's past mistreatment of Evelyn circulated freely.
Eleanor had frequently complained about Evelyn's shortcomings and belittled her before friends. Now that Evelyn's status was revealed, these women relished Eleanor's discomfort.
"Mrs. Blackwell, you really should introduce your daughter-in-law to us. One never knows when such connections might prove useful."
