Chapter 308
Evelyn quickly averted her gaze, her cheeks flushing with warmth.
Even after Harrison's heartfelt confession, she couldn't bring herself to respond properly.
The world seemed to pause around them.
After what felt like eternity, Harrison reached out, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"There's no rush for an answer. Take all the time you need." His voice was soft yet firm.
Only then did Evelyn dare to meet his eyes.
Flashes of their shared moments played through her mind like a cherished film reel.
Would she ever find someone who understood her so completely?
"Harrison, I just need a little more time," she whispered.
He simply nodded. "Whatever you need."
Evelyn drew a deep breath, her gaze drifting to the horizon.
Despite her efforts to move forward, fragments of the past clung stubbornly to her heart.
The memory of Nathan Sterling, the passionate young man who'd fought for justice on campus, surfaced unexpectedly.
But that man no longer existed.
"Let me see Ms. Carter immediately!"
"I'm sorry, miss. Ms. Carter is attending a private function."
At the estate gates, security struggled to contain Vivienne Chambers' determined advance.
The confrontation escalated as Vivienne shoved against the guards.
"Look at these gifts! They're for Ms. Carter personally. Can't you make an exception?"
"Without Ms. Carter's authorization, I can't permit entry." The guard remained unmoved.
Vivienne stamped her designer heel in frustration, her plans thwarted.
Just then, Evelyn and Harrison emerged. Spotting Evelyn, Vivienne's face lit up with exaggerated enthusiasm.
"Ms. Carter! Vivienne Chambers from Sterling Enterprises. We've met before, remember?"
Evelyn's brow furrowed in suspicion.
The head guard approached. "Ms. Carter, this woman has been causing a disturbance."
With a dismissive wave, Evelyn said, "Let her through."
Vivienne practically sprinted forward.
"Ms. Carter!" She beamed. "I've come to apologize properly."
She presented an ostentatious array of gifts - luxury skincare, rare cosmetics, imported supplements.
Evelyn blinked in surprise. "This isn't necessary, Ms. Chambers."
But Vivienne pressed on. "I know you must still be upset. Giselle was the one who barred your entry."
"That incompetent girl has been terminated. Consider this her comeuppance."
Evelyn studied Vivienne carefully.
With measured calm, she remarked, "Interesting. Wasn't Giselle your personal assistant?"
