Chapter 334

Evelyn adjusted her posture and strode confidently toward the wings of the stage.

The business summit's opening ceremony commenced moments later, with the charismatic host taking center stage, his voice brimming with infectious enthusiasm.

Within minutes, he had electrified the atmosphere, bringing the energy in the grand ballroom to a fever pitch.

"Among our distinguished guests tonight, we have the crème de la crème of the corporate world," the host announced. "As tradition dictates, we'll randomly select one visionary to share their leadership insights with us."

As the words left his mouth, Sylvia emerged from backstage, her venomous gaze locking onto Evelyn's position in the audience.

A sinister scheme was already taking shape in her mind.

She sauntered over to her clique of socialites, triumph flashing in her eyes. "Prepare yourselves, ladies. The real entertainment is about to begin."

The puzzled socialites exchanged glances. "Ms. Montgomery, don't overplay your hand," one cautioned.

Sylvia merely lifted her chin in defiance, refusing to dignify their concern with a response.

Her entire being thrummed with anticipation for Evelyn's impending humiliation.

Then the unexpected happened.

The host's gaze suddenly found Evelyn in the crowd. "Tonight we're honored to have among us the brilliant president of Kingsley Industries - Ms. Carter! Let's welcome Ms. Carter to share her corporate wisdom with us."

Evelyn's breath hitched at the unexpected summons.

Dominic hadn't mentioned this protocol during their briefing. Why was she being singled out?

Standing nearby, Dominic's expression darkened as he turned to his assistant. "What's the meaning of this?"

The equally baffled assistant responded, "I'll investigate immediately, Mr. Kingsley."

Dominic's gaze shifted to Evelyn, who maintained perfect composure, a serene smile playing on her lips.

"Never mind—"

Before Dominic could finish, the host continued, "Let's give Ms. Carter a warm welcome!"

Thunderous applause erupted as every eye in the room turned toward Evelyn.

Evelyn remained the picture of poise. Her sweeping gaze eventually landed on Sylvia.

The challenge in Sylvia's stare was unmistakable.

Their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills that lasted several heartbeats.

The socialites beside Sylvia shifted uncomfortably. "Aren't you being rather obvious with your hostility, Ms. Montgomery?" one whispered. "Aren't you afraid of the Kingsleys' retaliation?"

At that moment, fear was the furthest thing from Sylvia's mind.

"Even if they seek revenge," she said coldly, "it'll be after Evelyn's made a fool of herself. If I'm going down, I'm taking her with me."

The socialites exchanged worried glances. "You're playing with fire."

Sylvia ignored them, her focus entirely on Evelyn.

The tension between them was so palpable it seemed to vibrate through the air.

Yet Evelyn merely smiled and ascended the stage with effortless grace.

The room fell silent as she took the microphone. "Good evening everyone, I'm Evelyn Carter."

Her simple, unpretentious introduction radiated quiet confidence, instantly winning over the audience.

"Truth be told," she continued, "I consider myself still learning in the realm of executive leadership. My experience pales in comparison to many of you here tonight."
