Chapter 407
Evelyn gasped in shock, but quickly composed herself with a shake of her head.
Her gaze fell upon the photograph embedded in the tombstone. "I don't recognize her."
Adelaide's face fell at the response.
"There's something else," Evelyn continued, her voice steady. "I can prove she's an imposter."
Hope flickered in Adelaide's eyes. Without hesitation, Evelyn knelt before the grave, her fingers tracing the weathered bricks.
She pressed against the rightmost stone until it shifted, revealing a hidden compartment.
From within, she withdrew a bundle of yellowed documents.
"Here's the accident report, Juliette's death certificate, and..." Evelyn's voice caught slightly, "her most prized design sketches."
Harrison and Dominic exchanged meaningful glances before accepting the papers.
Adelaide took a steadying breath before unfolding them.
"The fire left Juliette with third-degree burns over eighty percent of her body. Losing both parents in that crash... it broke her spirit."
"Despite the medical team's efforts, she never regained consciousness."
A heavy silence descended.
Dominic examined the hospital records with growing unease. "Then when did this impostor take her place?" His mind raced with possibilities.
Evelyn unlocked her phone with swift movements, pulling up a video. "This is her first public appearance. The timestamp shows it was exactly five years ago."
Five years?
Dominic's eyebrows shot up.
His memories of that period were hazy - back when he'd been studying at Coronia University. What possible connection could there be?
Beside them, Harrison's voice cut through the silence. "This was no spur-of-the-moment scheme. Someone invested serious time and resources into this deception."
Evelyn frowned. "Harrison, what could they possibly want?"
"Think carefully, Evelyn. Any enemies? Business rivals your family might have crossed?"
The realization struck like lightning.
As one of Frenda's most powerful families controlling global financial currents, the Kingsleys had made countless adversaries.
But to plot for five years? This went beyond corporate rivalry.
"I'll have Elliot investigate this thoroughly. We've already uncovered two crucial pieces of evidence here."
"First proof that clears you of plagiarism allegations. Second, definitive evidence that Juliette Blackwood is an impostor."
"As for her true identity..." Harrison's eyes gleamed with determination. "Let's make her reveal herself."
The plan crystallized in Evelyn's mind. "We'll start surveillance immediately. Track her every move."
Just then, her phone vibrated. A cold smile curved her lips as she checked the caller ID. "Speak of the devil."
Harrison's grip tightened around her free hand. "Answer it. Let's hear what she has to say."
Evelyn tapped the screen, and Juliette's honeyed voice filled the air between them.
