Chapter 281

"We've finalized our partnership with Horizon Technologies. I'll personally oversee the initial phase of the project." Evelyn's voice carried quiet determination.

"Ms. Carter, shall I accompany you?" Simon inquired.

Evelyn gave a brief nod. "Prepare the core team. When the time comes, you'll all be joining Horizon Technologies on-site."

After confirming the arrangements, Evelyn reached for her phone to message Harrison. The device vibrated unexpectedly in her palm.

Her expression remained impassive as she answered the call from the flashing number.

Nathan's voice crackled through the line. "Evelyn, I hear you've secured a deal with Horizon Technologies."

Her gaze drifted to the cityscape beyond her office window. "Your intelligence network remains impressive, Mr. Sterling."

"Are you certain about choosing them over Sterling Enterprises? Our resources could guarantee your success."

"The decision's made," Evelyn replied coolly. "Further discussion seems unnecessary."

But Nathan wouldn't concede defeat. When had he ever accepted loss?

"The Dunhill venture isn't as straightforward as it appears. If you're traveling there, exercise caution. Should you require assistance—"

"Your concern is misplaced," Evelyn interrupted. "Kingsley Industries has no interest in Sterling's help."

"If you've time to spare, perhaps address your domestic affairs first. Wouldn't want personal complications affecting your business, would we?"

Nathan understood her implication perfectly.

"Rest assured," he vowed, voice thick with conviction. "Those who wronged you won't escape consequences."

A humorless smile touched Evelyn's lips. "Your family drama holds no interest for me. And I've no patience for idle chatter."

The line went dead with a decisive click.

Nathan's grip tightened around his phone, knuckles whitening. Shadows gathered in his stormy gaze.

The office door creaked open.

Isabella entered cautiously. "Nathan? Is everything alright?"

"Out!" The single word cracked like a whip.

His violent tone made her flinch.

Affecting concern, she approached. "Whatever troubles you, we can face it together."

Nathan's fingers closed around her chin with bruising force. "You overestimate your worth."

He shoved her away without ceremony.

"Is there truly no place for me in your heart?" Isabella's voice trembled with desperation. "What of our child? Doesn't that bond mean anything?"

At the mention, Nathan's expression darkened further.

Had it not been for Isabella and that fabricated pregnancy, he and Evelyn wouldn't be in this wretched situation.

"Have I been too lenient?" Nathan's voice dropped dangerously. "Recall my warning. Keep your distance, unless you wish to revisit prison walls."

Isabella's eyes narrowed to slits.

"You're still obsessed with Evelyn? Can't you see she doesn't love you? If she did, would she have left so easily? Wake up, Nathan!"

"Enough!" The roar shook the office walls.

Nathan stormed past her, slamming the door behind him.

Rage burned through Isabella's veins. With shaking hands, she retrieved her phone. After prolonged hesitation, she dialed a memorized number.

"Meet me. The usual place."
