Chapter 236
Frederick couldn't resist pushing further. "When they were giving Evelyn such a hard time, why didn't it bother you?"
"Now that I've merely made a few comments, why are you reacting so strongly? Nathan, don't you think you're overreacting just a bit?"
Nathan responded with icy calm. "Feeling particularly talkative today, Gregory?"
Gregory only grew more intrigued by his evasive answer. He slung an arm around his shoulder. "Brother, aren't you waiting for someone?"
The "someone" in Gregory's words could only mean Evelyn.
A faint twitch appeared at the corner of Nathan's mouth. "Don't you have anything better to do?"
Gregory quickly denied, "Not at all. Just... curious."
"Let me give you some advice - now that you've realized your feelings and want Evelyn back, you need to make up for past mistakes with genuine sincerity. Own up to them like a man! Take responsibility and make things right! In simpler terms, just treat her better," he continued.
Nathan remained unmoved. "Didn't need your input on that."
As they spoke, a sleek white Maserati came into view. Gregory let out an amused whistle. "Well well, looks like your guest of honor has arrived."
Evelyn parked perfectly in the designated spot, grabbed her gift, and stepped out gracefully.
Most attendees today were close relatives of the Sterling family.
They were all too aware of the gossip surrounding Evelyn and Nathan, especially their very public divorce.
Whispers broke out immediately, unable to hide their shock.
"What's she doing here?"
"I thought they were divorced? Could they have reconciled?"
"She's the Kingsley heiress - her status and background far surpass the Sterlings. Marrying her would be considered a coup for their family."
Evelyn kept her gaze forward, ignoring the murmurs around her.
She moved with effortless elegance in a flowing sapphire gown that hugged her slender frame, her steps confident in designer heels.
Nathan stepped forward to greet her. "You came."
Evelyn gave a slight nod in acknowledgment. "Where's Margaret?"
"Inside. I'll take you to her," Nathan offered.
Gregory barely suppressed his grin as he waved at Evelyn. "Long time no see. Heard you've become old man Whitaker's protégé - practically family now."
Evelyn offered a polite but distant smile, declining Nathan's escort as she entered alone.
"Margaret!"
Upon seeing Evelyn, the elder woman brightened and took her hands. "Evelyn, my dear, you're here."
The Sterling relatives who once looked down on Evelyn with disdain now wore ingratiating smiles.
"Evelyn, you look more radiant than ever," gushed Beatrice Harrington, Nathan's aunt who had once joined Eleanor in tormenting Evelyn. Now her tone dripped with false sweetness.
"I heard your grandfather is Leonard Kingsley. I'd love the opportunity to meet him sometime," Beatrice added shamelessly.
