Chapter 54
Ethan Roscente's slender fingers tapped against the steering wheel. His sharp gaze swept over her. "Who else would dare take photos of me except you?"
"..."
Sophia Lowell sensed hidden meaning in his words but couldn't pinpoint it.
He pressed the horn impatiently. "Get in. No parking here."
She scoffed. Since when did the mighty CEO of Roscente Group care about a traffic violation?
Her phone vibrated with a message from Vivian Ashcroft: "Did the car arrive?"
Before she could reply, a strong hand yanked her into the vehicle. Ethan gripped her wrist with one hand and slammed the door shut with the other.
"Too slow," he muttered coldly.
Rubbing her reddened wrist, Sophia texted Vivian: "Cancel the ride."
"What happened?"
"Ran into a rabid dog."
"Ethan?"
"Bingo."
Ethan's expression darkened as he glimpsed the screen. He snatched her phone, easily dodging her attempt to grab it back.
"Let's see how you gossip about me," he said icily.
Her heart skipped a beat. "That's invading my privacy!"
He smirked. "Slander is punishable by law. Need my lawyer to educate you?"
She bit her lip.
Cold sweat trickled down her back as he scrolled through the messages. Thank god she'd deleted all pregnancy-related content.
"What do these abbreviations mean?" He frowned.
"Fandom slang." She feigned calm.
"YQ?"
"Together." She lied smoothly—it actually stood for "pregnancy."
"HY?"
"Membership." In truth, it meant "pregnant."
His eyes narrowed. "YS means doctor?"
She gave a thumbs-up. "Impressive, Mr. Roscente."
From the driver's seat, Zachary Evans chimed in: "I know YYDS means 'eternal god,' but these are new to me."
Sophia rolled her eyes internally but maintained an innocent smile. "You should browse more, Zachary."
He kept his eyes on the road. "Too busy with work to keep up with trends."
Ethan tossed the phone back to her, his gaze threatening. "Next time, you'll face consequences."
Her fingers trembled as she took it. Watching the scenery blur past the window, she silently celebrated another narrow escape.
