Chapter 358
The phone screen went dark as Sophia Lowell took a deep breath.
She turned to find a waiter for directions, but collided abruptly with a solid chest.
"My apologies..." She stepped back hastily.
"Miss Lowell?"
That voice froze her in place.
Kevin Heilbronn leaned casually against the corridor's ornate wall, his suit jacket slung over one shoulder and tie loosened. He studied her through half-lidded eyes like she was some amusing specimen.
"What a coincidence." His lips curled in a mocking smile. "Running somewhere in such a hurry?"
Sophia maintained her composure while increasing the distance between them. "Mr. Heilbronn."
He suddenly closed the gap, the mingled scents of tobacco and cologne assaulting her senses. "See something you shouldn't have?" he murmured.
Her nails dug into her palms.
"Heard Mr. Roscente brought some starlet tonight." Kevin whistled low. "Tsk. Has our dear secretary fallen out of favor?"
The corridor lights suddenly seemed too bright.
"Move." Her voice could have frosted glass.
Instead of retreating, he advanced until his polished shoes nearly touched her gown's hem. "My buddy's still in ICU. Valrose Group's stock crashed three times straight. Know who's responsible?"
Sophia's head snapped up.
"Ethan Roscente." Kevin's grin turned savage. "Just because someone touched your hand, he nearly crippled Dominic Valrose."
Her blood turned to ice.
"Impossible," she heard herself say.
Kevin whipped out his phone, displaying a photo of Dominic Valrose intubated in a hospital bed.
"Stop pretending." He suddenly seized her wrist. "Ethan went berserk for you, then turned around to have fun with someone else—"
Crack!
The sharp slap echoed down the hallway.
Kevin licked the blood from his lip and laughed wildly. "Guess why he targeted Dominic? Because the idiot tried to poach you as his secretary!"
Sophia staggered back until the cold浮雕 pressed against her spine.
A包厢 door swung open, releasing laughter and perfume. Ethan Roscente emerged with a popular actress on his arm, lipstick smudged on his collar.
His gaze swept the corridor, lingering for one heartbeat on Sophia's ashen face before dismissing her with indifference.
Kevin whispered in her ear, laughter lacing his words: "Look. Your sugar daddy's here."
