Chapter 438

Sophia's chest heaved violently. "My body, my choice. No one can force me."

Ethan's eyes turned icy. "Too bad you don't have the right to refuse me. Whether it's one child or a dozen, you'll obey." His lips curled in disdain. "Spare me the feminist nonsense."

Her fingers trembled.

Of course. A man like Ethan Roscente was above the law.

She smirked bitterly. "What's wrong? Can't Isabella Valentine bear your children? Or is your technique that pathetic?"

"Enough." His voice darkened. "We start trying tonight. With my virility, you'll be pregnant within three months."

"You?" Sophia scoffed. "A stray dog would do better."

Rage flashed in Ethan's eyes. He gripped her chin, knuckles whitening. "You're asking for death."

She tilted her head defiantly. "Comparing you to a dog insults the dog."

"Sophia!"

"Call me 'Your Majesty' and it still won't help!"

Red marks bloomed on her pale skin. Seeing the tears welling in her eyes, Ethan's grip loosened.

"Sorry," he muttered. "Don't cry."

The words broke the dam. Tears streamed down her face.

Ethan sighed. "Must you always oppose me?" He reached for her. "About the baby—"

"Get away!" She shoved him, wiping her cheeks furiously. "I'd never carry your child! A heartless monster like you doesn't deserve to be a father!"

"I'm doing this because—"

"Shut up!"

Footsteps interrupted the tense silence.

"What's going on?" Dr. Xavier Heilbronn hurried over, spotting Sophia's red-rimmed eyes. He glared at Ethan. "You idiot! I told you to comfort her, not make it worse!"

Patting Sophia's shoulder, he softened. "Don't worry, child. I'll handle this."

The rare kindness made her nose sting. "I'm fine."

"Fine?" Dr. Xavier huffed. "Tears wasted on this brat aren't worth it."

Sophia pressed her lips together and nodded. "I know."
