Chapter 108
Sophia stepped aside as two young women passed by her.
"Oh my god! That was really Isabella Valentine and Ethan Roscente!" The short-haired girl whispered excitedly. "They look so perfect together!"
"I never knew Isabella could be this sweet in person," the long-haired girl added. "Totally different from her on-screen persona."
Sophia's fingers tightened unconsciously around her bag strap.
"Rumor has it Mr. Roscente bought her an apartment nearby," the short-haired girl continued gossiping. "Because her new drama is filming at the university."
"That's beyond romantic!" The other girl sighed enviously.
Their voices faded into the distance. Sophia stood frozen, feeling her blood turn to ice.
Now she understood why that black van had appeared here.
The elevator doors reflected her pale face. The smile on her lips had long disappeared.
Ding—
The elevator reached her floor.
The doors slid open to reveal an empty hallway.
Sophia pulled out her phone, her fingertips trembling slightly.
The call connected instantly.
"Where are you?" Her voice came out strained.
"At your doorstep." Ethan's reply was crisp.
Sophia stared at the deserted corridor and let out a bitter laugh. "Liar!"
She hung up without hesitation and blocked the number immediately.
As the elevator doors closed again, she pressed the button for the underground parking garage.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Ethan glared at his disconnected phone, his expression thunderous.
"Mr. Roscente?" Zachary Evans ventured cautiously.
"Stay here." Ethan tossed his phone to his assistant and strode toward the emergency stairs.
He took the steps two at a time, only to find Sophia's floor completely empty.
The elevator display showed it had already descended to B2.
Ethan slammed his fist against the wall, his knuckles turning white.
Down in the parking garage, Sophia started her car.
She caught sight of her reflection in the rearview mirror—her eyes slightly red.
"How stupid of me," she muttered with a self-deprecating twist of her lips.
The engine roared as the black sedan sped out of the garage.
