Chapter 164
Isabella picked up the document. The words "Divorce Agreement" stared back at her in bold letters.
The first clause granted Alexander full custody of Sophia. Pages of asset divisions followed, detailing everything he was offering her.
She'd been meaning to ask about their divorce proceedings.
Now, skimming through the papers without reading thoroughly, she slid them back across the table. "I have no objections."
Her hand reached into her purse for a pen.
When Isabella had married Alexander, her methods hadn't been entirely ethical.
Though neither Alexander nor Oliver thought highly of her, they'd witnessed her devotion to him over the years.
Given her deep love, Oliver expected tears, protests - anything but this calm acceptance.
Yet here she was, not even contesting custody of their daughter.
Oliver turned to Alexander, stunned.
Alexander's dark eyes studied Isabella, his expression inscrutable. Clearly, he hadn't anticipated this either.
Just as her pen touched paper, Isabella hesitated. She withdrew it.
Oliver smirked. Here it comes-
"I'll have my lawyer review this tomorrow," she said. "If everything checks out, I'll sign within two days and have them contact you."
The agreement listed generous assets, including shares from Alexander's company.
Her initial divorce proposal had asked for nothing.
But now that he offered, she wouldn't refuse. Their marriage might have been loveless, but he'd never sabotaged her.
Still, she hesitated.
Potential loopholes worried her.
If his company faced trouble later, those shares could make her a scapegoat.
Alexander might not intend harm now, but she couldn't trust Victoria not to exploit any vulnerabilities.
Alexander seemed taken aback by her caution. After a pause, he nodded. "Fine."
Isabella tucked the papers into her bag, zipped it shut, and left without another word.
Oliver stared after her. "Is she sick?"
Alexander watched until she disappeared down the hall. "I don't know."
"She didn't even blink about Sophia. That's not normal."
A muscle twitched in Alexander's jaw. "Hmm."
"Does she not want custody? Impossible! Sophia's her entire world!"
Suddenly, Oliver's eyes narrowed. "Wait - did you two already discuss this privately?"
Alexander's expression darkened. "No. We never spoke about it."
"Then what the hell just happened?"
