Chapter 130

Victoria remained perfectly composed upon hearing Alexander was attending the Sinclair family's celebration.

Eleanor Whitmore shared an exceptionally close bond with Margaret Sinclair. Naturally, she'd send Alexander as her representative to Margaret's 70th birthday since she couldn't attend personally.

This wasn't news to Victoria.

Still, a pang of irritation flickered through her despite knowing Alexander's presence was merely following orders.

The guests immediately speculated about trouble between Victoria and Alexander when they realized he'd chosen the Sinclairs' party over hers.

"Madam Whitmore and Madam Sinclair are dear friends," Victoria stated coolly. "Alexander is only there at Madam Whitmore's request."

Rumors had circulated about the Sinclair and Whitmore families being close.

Yet without visible interactions between them, most dismissed it as mere gossip.

Victoria's explanation suggested there might be truth to those rumors after all.

Just then, an attendant entered carrying an ornate gift box toward Victoria and the Kensingtons.

"Ms. Kensington," the attendant addressed Victoria, "Mr. Whitmore encountered unexpected business and may arrive late. Concerned about missing your event, he asked me to deliver this gift on his behalf."

Victoria accepted the package gracefully. "Thank you."

Given Margaret and Eleanor's friendship, it made perfect sense for Alexander to pay his respects at Margaret's birthday first.

Clearly anticipating guests would question his relationship with Victoria, Alexander had thoughtfully arranged for this gift delivery despite his current location. This gesture demonstrated his care and consideration for her.

Moreover, no one could possibly claim Alexander didn't value Victoria after witnessing such thoughtful gestures.

The guests exchanged awkward glances. While the Kensingtons weren't pleased about Alexander's choice, they kept their displeasure private. As the tension dissipated, Lawrence raised his glass in a toast, thanking everyone for coming.

Thanks to Lawrence's intervention, the atmosphere quickly regained its celebratory mood.

Warmth blossomed in Victoria's chest at Alexander's consideration, melting away her earlier irritation.

Noticing Julian's continued absence, she turned to Oliver. "Where's Julian?"

"Let me check."

After a brief phone call, Oliver reported, "He had urgent business and had to leave. He sends his apologies."

"That's fine."

Victoria pressed further. "Did he mention what kind of emergency?"

"I didn't ask."

Oliver initially dismissed it, then suddenly remembered. "Could it be related to that woman he likes?"

Victoria's smile stiffened. "He hasn't mentioned her recently. I wouldn't know," she replied tersely.

"You're right." Oliver stroked his chin thoughtfully. "We should ask him next time."

Victoria lowered her eyes with a quiet "Mm-hmm."

Meanwhile, having settled at the Sinclairs' main table, Alexander stole a glance at Isabella.

Her initial surprise at his arrival had been evident.

But she'd quickly schooled her expression.

Noticing his gaze, she asked flatly, "Something wrong?"

Alexander averted his eyes. "Nothing."
